Successfully Funded Kickstarter

As of Feb 2nd I can say that I helped to successfully fund a Kickstarter campaign! And this was my first Kickstarter no less! My primary responsibilities were to produce the pitch video and run demos of the game at conventions and local board game meetups. I am absolutely thrilled by the enormous amount of support the project received. Going into the project I knew it was a huge risk, and thought I understood how much work the campaign would require, but boy was I wrong. It was like working two full time jobs for a month, and that's not even taking into account the months of marketing we did leading up to the campaign, or the years it took to actually make the game!

Looking back, I can say the Chaosmos team did everything right. Chaosmos is a labor of love. Passion kept our fires burning when the hours got long or doubt set in because deep down we knew we had a game worth sharing. Chaosmos is scheduled to hit shelves in October 2014.

Here's to many more successes in the future!

2011 Sheridan Animation Portfolio

At long last I present my portfolio to Sheridan's Animation program.

Roughly one year ago I set a goal to gain acceptance into one of best animation schools in the world. My two choices were CalArts and Sheridan. For the past six months my life has revolved around preparing this portfolio. I attended over a hundred figure drawing sessions (roughly 5 sessions per week). Whenever I had free time I would work on portfolio drawings, day and night for six months.

The hardest part by far was the character section. I saved it for last because I thought it would be the easiest. Boy was I wrong! Thank God I did the room drawings first because they are definitely the most daunting, but once you get into them they fly by. I used mostly extra figure drawings for my personal work because I spent so much time figure drawing. I figured that if I went to as many figure drawing sessions as I could then those skills would translate into the other drawings, and I think I was right.

2011 CalArts Character Animation Portfolio

At long last I present my portfolio application to the CalArts Character Animation Program! I'd like to offer an enormous thank you to my instructors at the Animation Portfolio Workshop in Toronto. They have provided me with the tools to turn my imagination into 3 dimensional images. I'd also like to thank Lee Yon Hui a first year CalArts animation student who has been exceedingly generous in reviewing my work and providing excellent feedback as well as inspiration.

My portfolio certainly lacks the vibrant color found in most CalArts portfolios, but I believe it portrays a strong knowledge of construction and my ability put story at the forefront in my work. I'd describe my style as intense, creepy, and dare I say dark. But I also hope people sense the gestural, whimsical, and playful qualities as well. I accredit the duel nature of my art to the fact that my two biggest inspirations are The Nightmare Before Christmas and Up. Both of these films were lead by CalArts alumni I might add.

I'm thrilled that's it's done and sent. I can honestly say I gave it my best shot. Looking back at how far I've come as a draftsmen this past year I consider this portfolio a success, and I look forward to hearing the results in March. In the meantime please feel free to comment on my work and as my character Moon Head say, "Enjoy!"
